Completed March 2008 - Mr Larwence

Carol and I had a new kitchen done by David Daly early in 2008. We were on holiday 12000 miles away in New Zealand.

Before leaving, we had three meetings in our Brixham home, discussing and agreeing David's drawings, reviewing samples of worktops, tiles, handles, hinges, lights, taps and so forth. He made the choice very easy for us because of his extensive knowledge of what fittings were available and how much they would cost. Being self employed, David had no ties with any particular manufacturer, so we could chose from a very wide range. We chose Neff for the cooker, combi-microwave, fridge and freezer, but for everything else we ended up taking David's advice on quality and value.

The work was not just replacing kitchen units. It also involves enlarging the exsisting kitchen by removing a glass brick wall and some studwork, moving the entrance door, fitting a Cedar ceiling and fitting matching porcelain tiles to the newly exposed areas. It was also to be done whilst we were away, so we needed someone who was not only trustworthy but also able and willing to act as manager and coordinate the various other traders. David had done work for us before, fitting several built in cupboards to what was a very bare house, so his workmanship and trustworthiness was unquestionable. He agreed to install the kitchen whilst we were in New Zealand, where he could contact us by email should problems arise. (In the event, the only emails were from him sending us photographs as the works progressed.)

So we signed up David for the job, agreed stage payments and went off to New Zealand for an extended holiday. We returned, a little apprehensive, to find everything perfect. No dust, no mess, no empty boxes .... just a gleaming new kitchen, finished in every respect with a carton of fresh milk in the fridge. All we had to do was to fill the cupboards and drawers with our own items and congratulate David on a job well done.
